One of the gadgets that arrasarían thought that this was the year 2008 universal remote controls and touch screen. One of the gadgets that arrasarían thought that this was the year 2008 universal remote controls and touch screen. Logitech Harmony style. Logitech Harmony style. Of those two wishes I would have to be complied with only one: the universal remote, but not as thought, but universal in each brand. Read more

SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry goes beta at long last on December 30

Posted on | December 18, 2008 | No Comments

Great googly moogly, we wrote about this very application like fifty weeks ago. Fifty, people! Of course, with the drawn-out SlingCatcher drama, lengthy Sling product cycles aren’t a terribly big surprise, so we should just all thank our lucky stars we’re going to be getting our hands on SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry before the year’s out. The app officially enters its public beta cycle come December 30 for the Bold, the Curve 8320 / 8900, the Pearl 8120 / 8220, and the venerable 8820, piping your home teevee right to your handset and usurping any semblance of productivity your BlackBerry otherwise stands for. A 3G or WiFi connection is “strongly recommended” — which we take to mean “go ahead, give EDGE a whirl” — but BlackBerry OS 4.5 is a hard and fast requirement, so make sure you come equipped with the goods if you want to waste some quality time in front of the small screen when this goes live.

SSD de 512 GB de Toshiba 512 GB SSD from Toshiba

One of the disappointments of the year, in addition to the price increase and modification of the original idea that brought us the Asus EEA, has been for me the low impact of the discs SSD despite the fact that earlier this year gave the impression that the we would see everywhere. The capacity, one of the counterweights to the progress of the SSD in our consumer PCs, has already exceeded by far.

Wazabee 3DeeFlector, 3D sin necesidad de gafas Wazabee 3DeeFlector, without the need for 3D glasses

Posted on | December 18, 2008 | No Comments

Lo malo de televisores 3D como el de Panasonic es que requieren el uso de unas gafas adecuadas además, lógicamente, de la pantalla especial para ese contenido. The downside of 3D TVs like the Panasonic is requiring the use of proper glasses in addition, of course, the special display for that content. El Wazabee 3DeeFlector solventa ambos problemas. The Wazabee 3DeeFlector resolves both problems.

Utilizando una pantalla convencional, a la que se le añade un filtro, es posible visualizar contenido en 3D. Using a standard screen, which is added a filter, it is possible to view 3D content. Tal vez el resultado no sea tan bueno como con gafas, pero la idea parece realmente apetecible. Perhaps the result was not as good as with glasses, but the idea seems really appealing. Especialmente teniendo en cuenta que es aplicable a monitores de ordenador, pero también a reproductores portátiles o al iPhone. Especially considering that it is applicable to computer monitors, but also to portable players or the iPhone.

Sony PSP2 rumors debunked, probably not for the last time

Posted on | December 18, 2008 | No Comments

OK, guys and gals, we hate to break it to you — John Koller, Sony’s Director of Hardware Marketing has said it in plain English: “no plans for a PSP2 are underway.” Apparently, the company is pushing developers towards the PlayStation store for their primary point of sale, a move that some people have taken to mean that the companies have been secretly developing games for some sort of new platform. Of course, in the light of some similarly “cryptic” statements we reported yesterday, some folks might continue to be gullible skeptical. Which is fine, as long as nobody asks us when the device pictured above will be released. ‘Cos it won’t be. Evar.

iLuv announces i9500 iPod / CD sound system

Posted on | December 18, 2008 | No Comments

iLuv certainly isn’t lacking in iPod docks these days, but those looking for something a bit more elaborate than your average desktop model will no doubt be pleased to see the company’s new i9500 system, which opts for a vertical design that can accommodate four CDs in addition to the iPod of your choice. If that’s not enough for you, the system will also handle SD cards and USB storage devices, and you’ll also get all the usual stereo features like an AM/FM radio and alarm clock functionality. With 45W of power and a separate, somewhat sizeable subwoofer, the system should also pump out some decent enough sound, at least compared to iLuv’s more modest systems. No word on a price just yet, but iLuv will apparently have more to say about that at CES.

Cowon’s 16GB S9 PMP ships early to America

We know, it’s not December 19th just yet, but Santa’s being super proactive this year. As of right now, Cowon’s 16GB S9 PMP is on sale and shipping to US consumers from JetMall. You already know what the $239.99 will buy you — the question is, are you able to hold off?

BlackBerry Application Suite for Windows Mobile spotted virtualizin’ in the wild

Posted on | December 18, 2008 | No Comments

It looks like RIM’s virtualization software is getting close to materializing for end users on Windows Mobile, a bold statement by the company that it’s not the least bit afraid that extending the BlackBerry ecosystem to WinMo devices in a far more rich, attractive, and useful way than BlackBerry Connect ever could won’t risk cannibalizing sales of its own devices. Shots of the so-called BlackBerry Application Suite running on a Fuze have shown up, looking darn near as polished as a native RIM handset — except you won’t find anything like this form factor from RIM, now will you? All told, that makes it a good option not just for folks that are stuck to Windows Mobile, but also to anyone looking for their nonexistent QWERTY slide BlackBerry. Unforutunately, there’s no telling when this thing is going live, but hey, at least it isn’t vaporware.

Samsung P3 gets official… in Korea

Posted on | December 18, 2008 | No Comments

It’s no secret that the Samsung Yepp YP-P3 PMP is on the way — Sammy’s shown it off, it’s kicking around the FCC and we’ve already seen it unboxed — but it looks like it’s getting an official launch in Korea just ahead of CES. Specs are the same as we’ve known forever: the same 3-inch, 480 x 272 touchscreen as the P2, but with added haptic feedback and a new Flash-based UI with customizable widgets, Bluetooth with A2DP, the usual codec support, and a 30-hour audio playback battery life. No US prices yet, but the Koreans out there should look to have scrounged together 239,000 won ($177) for the 4GB, 279,000 won ($207) for 8GB, and 329,000 won ($244) for the 16GB model by the time these ship in early January. Interface vid after the break.
